Three Ways To Prepare Your Truck To Be Hauled

Posted on: 3 April 2017

Need to have your truck towed? Make sure you understand there is both a right and a wrong way to go about this process. Failure to properly prepare your truck for transport can lead to damage. If your truck is already damaged, more damage is the last thing you want to experience. Before you schedule a tow for your truck, here are just some of the things you want to do to prepare first.

Remove Modifications

Trucks are large and bulky on their own, which can make them more challenging to tow. If you have made modifications to the vehicle and added some customized features, this can make the process of transporting the vehicle even more challenging. To protect these modifications and simplify the transport process, it's a good idea to remove them first.

In fact, some towing companies may require you to do so as these modifications, such as a larger bumper, can inhibit their ability to properly secure your vehicle. You can make things much easier and safer by removing them on your own.

Leave Some Fuel

In terms of keeping weight low, many people believe that you should drain as many fluids from the vehicle as you can, including the fuel. This is both true and false. Yes, added fuel only increases the weight, but you don't want to get rid of all the fuel. If your truck is still operable, the driver of the tow truck might encounter a scenario where the truck needs to be moved.

If the truck has fuel, it will be much easier if the truck can simply be driven. While you don't need a full tank, try to keep at least a little fuel in the truck for startup.

Look For Leaks

Take some time to look for leaks beforehand. Leaks introduce a number of safety risks for the vehicle towing your truck. Since your truck will be dependent on the tow vehicle, any problems with the tow vehicle can also result in problems for your truck. For example, an oil leak can affect the tow vehicle's tires and increase the risk of an accident.

To avoid this, simply look over your truck a few times before the scheduled transport to see if you see any residue from fluids on the ground below it.

In addition to these tips, make sure you are also pairing with a professional. Even with your efforts, if you fail to choose the tow professional wisely, this can introduce a number of additional concerns. Taking your time to prepare and choosing a skilled professional is the best route. For more information, contact companies like River's Truck Center.

Talking About Automotive Aerodynamics

Hello, my name is Andrea. Welcome to my site about automotive aerodynamics systems. Vehicle manufacturers equip their model line with purpose built aerodynamic pieces that improve downforce and reduce drag. These components can improve the performance of the vehicle and boost its gas mileage. There are many aftermarket parts drivers can install on their vehicle to net improved gains. I will explore the way race car drivers utilize aerodynamics as well. I hope you will follow along and learn about each type of aerodynamic component and its uses. I invite you to come back anytime to learn more from my site. Thanks for coming by.
